... get fitter, eat healthier, drink less, have fun with the kids... DAY 21

Weigh in day today! Very disappointed to report 0 weight loss!
Best just crack on! Maybe try to have more frequent healthy snacks! I've not eaten a lot, maybe body in starvation mode (HA HA, silly body it's got plenty of blubber to feast on).

Get Fitter
  • 5.50 am Group Power class. It's been a stand in instructor these last few weeks so it was the first class for me with the regular teacher! Starting to feel my wee (ok big) leggies hurt a wee bit and we did a proper back track for the first time since I've done this class at this gym! YAY! (For those not familiar, Group Power is a copy at version of Les Mills Body Pump).
  • Walk/Jog/Sprint round Queen Elizabeth Park with Lovely Hubby, The Cherubs in the double buggy and of course The Hound! Lovely Hubby had the hideous task of pushing The Cherubs up and down the hilly dune tracks! It was pretty hot too! Awesome family workout though! We clocked up 4km! (for some pictures click here)
Calorie Count - 750

Eat Healthier
  • Protein shake with spinach, strawberries, banana and spirulina powder for breakfast.
  • Peanut butter and jam on whole meal toast for morning tea! I've always screwed my nose up at this but it would seem its an acquired taste.
  • Sandwich with cheese and vegemite and some nut mix for lunch.
  • A couple of salt and vinegar rice crackers for lunch.
  • Cherry tomato pasta for dinner.

Drink Less (Alcohol, More Water)
  • Zero alcohol. Really mustn't give in to temptation, just empty calories bound to keep the weight up!
  • 4 litres of water! Lots of exercise and lots of time in the sun so nothing for it but to glug it down!

Have Fun With The Kids

Another day of beautiful weather and no work (back to the grind tomorrow though).
We had fun with jigsaws, we met friends at the outdoor swimming pool for a splash around and a picnic, we had quiet time in the afternoon with some cartoons and story books and to top it all of we had a family walk/jog/sprint (see here).

Kapiti Island Today 22/1/13 (featuring Queen Elizabeth Park)

6pm ...

Taken from the awesome Queen Elizabeth Park.

Rather out of character but fitting to our new lifestyle (healthy and fit) we went as a family for a walk/jog/sprint round the inland and coastal track.

A pretty hard task at the best of times but made harder by the hills, heat and heavy load in the pram (rather hefty 13 month old and a 3 and a half year old). The fresh air was great for the kids and Lovely Hubby, The Hound and I all got a great workout!

Especially for the Fiona at Coombe Mill I took some pictures ...

It's a great place not just for the tracks but the beach, grassy areas to picnic in and spend the day playing, the tram and lots more. Last year there was a fledgling festival called Kapiti Fest held at one of the starting points. Hopefully it will be back again this year and will grow and grow.

A couple of links to more info about the park ...

... get fitter, eat healthier, drink less, have fun with the kids... DAY 20

As I mentioned yesterday, no weigh in today. I weigh in at work and it's a public holiday today so work is closed! I have thought about buying my own scales but I fear I would never be off them! Also it's good to use the same ones as they all vary!

Get Fitter
  • I went for a 5.3km run this morning. I started out thinking 'never gonna make it round', then went on to 'awesome I can run forever, how can I make this run route longer' to 'pech, pant, splutter, how can I make this route shorter'! I managed a 200/300metre sprint at the end though (well as much of a sprint as anyone can manage at the end of a big run!).
  • Alternative work out today was trying to empty out our monster paddling pool and flatten out the bottom of the pool so that it sat straight! This involved squatting with my knees pushing the sides down and rocking from one side to the other then pulling the tonne weight of the pool to try and flatten the bottom! Hrs going and not helped by the heat!
  • Darling Daughter and I had a play around in the surf at the beach. Not exactly high impact but walking in the sand and sea is good for you!

Eat Healthier
  • Very, very bad behaviour! Especially after going for a run! I didn't eat until lunch! I was somehow too busy trying to get the big chilli on the go for dinner, sorting out paddling pool, and setting up other toys outside so The Cherubs could play outside etc etc etc. I eventually shared the pasta leftovers from last night with Second Born Son at about 1pm. We also shared a fruit scone.
  • Afternoon tea of nut mix.
  • We had burgers done on the barbecue in a bun with tomatoes, jalapeƱos, mayo, mustard and relish! Not the healthiest but mmmmmm so tasty!

Drink Less (Alcohol, More Water)
  • Zero alcohol. I threatened to have some wine yesterday! I didn't! Just a cup of tea before bed instead.
  • About 2 litres. Would really have had more given my run and the heat but ....

Have Fun With The Kids
  • We made a batch of chilli each. I made a spicy one and Darling Daughter made a kiddy version for her and Archie! I nearly fainted when she ate it for lunch and tea!

  • Darling Daughter helped me with operation fix the paddling pool (see 'alternative exercise'). She used a bucket to empty the pool and water the plants.
  • We did some drawing outside at the table in the garden.
  • Darling Daughter collected some leaves and caught them like fish with a stick as a fishing rod.
  • We held a burial for a poor deceased garden toys limb we found.

  • We read stories on sun loungers.
  • We played with the pirate ship water table.
  • We splashed in the sea.
  • Second Born Son was around for most of this but was most commonly found shovelling food into his mouth (I.e at his happiest)

Imagine my delight when I asked Maisie what her favourite thing was today and she replied 'watching muppet babies on your phone'!

Linking up to Pinkoddy and A Party Of Seven for Motivational Monday!

Motivational Monday

Kapiti Island Today 21/1/13

5pm ...

Another corker today! Not a cloud in the sky! a bit of a breeze ... Perfect! (Not perfect actually because I wanted to go out in the kayak, bit breezy for a beginner like me!)

We all went down once Lovely Hubby had finished work. Darling Daughter and I went in for a splash and a play in the surf. It was super breezy and wavy so we couldn't get too carried away.

I really wanted to dive in and go for a swim but I am too scared to go at the best of times and even more so when it's choppy! Who knows where the waves would take me and what creatures would be swimming about at my feet! Eeeeeeekkkk!!!!

We saw someone trying to fish, people body boarding, a kite surfer (pictured can you see him?), a windsurfer and a big washed up tree (pictured, I really hope you can spot that).

Maybe one day we will live actually at the beach and everyday will be a beach day!

Meal Planning Monday 21/1/13

Short week for us this week! I'm off galavanting with The Cherubs at the weekend! We're off up to Auckland to see some chums! Lovely Hubby will have to sort himself out at the weekend!

  • Sunday we had pasta, mushroom, courgette, bacon and creamy pesto and garlic sauce.
  • I'll make a big chilli batch on Monday. Hopefully it will last us 2+ nights. It's been a while but I've got a hankering for it! Mon Monday we will have it with tacos.
  • Tuesday Lil' Sis' will cook!
  • Wednesday, chilli and a baked potato.
  • Thursday, burgers on the barbecue.
  • Friday and Saturday, Lovely Hubbies choice!

FYI our adventurous menu last week was relatively successful the macaroni muffins have potential.(I made a few mistakes. Blog post to follow), slow cooked balsamic chicken was yum (we served it with tatties and brocolli not pasta as the recipe suggested) and I liked the cheesy courgette quinoa, Lovely Hubby is not so sure but will try it again!

... get fitter, eat healthier, drink less, have fun with the kids... DAY 19

Wonder if this tip is true, does anyone know?!?

Best just warn you folks! I'm in a mood! Not really got time for anyone! My head hurts, my throat hurts and everyone is annoying! I also feel like I could sleep for a week! Hopefully a good sleep tonight will make my fettle better tomorrow! I'm going to have to start setting an alarm to go to bed! I am getting later and later, there's always a good film on and once I start tinkering around on the Internet I can't stop!

As promised though I am back on it today despite my bad mood! I think if I hadn't got any exercise in my mood would have been worse!

Get Fitter
  • 2 .5km run to the swimming pool ...
  • 1km swim. It's been a while since I've been in the pool and it was great! I've got a bad shoulder and freestyle has aggravated it! Another factor not helping my mood! It really restricts me when it plays up!
  • 2.5km walk with the dog.
So I've exercised my running muscle, my bike muscle and my swimming muscle! Anyone guess what I have in my sights!?!?!

Eat Healthier
  • Leftover cheesy quinoa for Brekkie!
  • Protein shake with strawberries, banana and spinach. I made an extra big one and it was my lunch. (By the way this whole time I have a,so been putting my spirulina, chlorella and barley grass powder in my smoothie).
  • Some nuts for afternoon tea.
  • A few bites of The Cherubs leftover peanut butter sarnies.
  • Pasta with mushrooms, courgettes, bacon and a creamy garlic and pesto sauce for dinner

My cousin is into body building and the like. He has just joined twitter and was tweeting about oats, water and protein powder in the microwave for a muscle meal! Might have to try it for a change from the protein shake smoothie! Please note I do not want to be a body builder but I do know that protein is good for after a workout to help the body recover and feed your muscles!

Drink Less (alcohol, more water)
  • Zero alcohol ... So far. I may have a spritzer after dinner.
  • About 2.5 litres of water.

Have Fun With The Kids

Both babies had quite a big nap today! Once they were refreshed and fed we headed to a friends house. The Daddies went out kayaking and the kids played in the garden! The mummies and to referee the older girls and watch the little ones didn't crack there heads open or drown in the paddling pool!

Darling Daughter had great fun playing in the paddling pool, jumping on the trampoline and playing with the water table! All things we have at home but that she never looks at!

No weigh in tomorrow, I weigh in at work and we are closed for the public holiday. I'll do it on Tuesday, fingers crossed I'm still going the right way! I don't feel like I've had as good a week but ill just have to wait and see what the scales say ..

Kapiti Island Today 20/1/13

4.25pm ...

The Kapiti Coast really turned it on today! It's been a particularly shitty week weather wise! Even a bit chilly on Friday there!

Nice weather for the annual Surf Casting Competition at Raumati Beach! I would like to say more but I'm not sure what it is! I originally thought it was something to do with surfing but I have since learnt that it is some kind of fishing. Ad there my knowledge on the subject ends!

It looks like we're on track for a nice week! Here's hoping it will stay for a bit longer than a week! Mummy arrives a week tomorrow! She will not be amused if its not hot and sunny!

I can't wait to see her though, nice weather or not! It's coming up for a year since we last saw her and Ian (my stepdad). She's here for nearly 7 weeks which sounds like ages but it will just fly by!
