Easy Peasy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Lets face it it has to be easy for me to tackle it! If the ingredients are not in my cupboards already, forget it!

I've been researching the art of the perfect chocolate chip cookies! I have had a few failed batches. My particular favourite is the pre bought cookie dough but I've even managed to cock that up on occasion! One recipe that I can manage is one from a friend of a friend! A 'shove it all in the bowl and get a different but good result each time' job!

During my research I have learned a couple of things ... Melt the butter, don't turn the oven up to the full temp it's meant to be and check on the baking a couple of minutes before the cooking time is up!

I have been pinning cookie recipes like there is no tomorrow so I thought it was about time I tried one of them!

I got this recipe from Plain Chicken. It looked relatively simple and simply delicious!

Here we have my effort ...

They don't exactly look the same! Three reasons/excuses for that ...
  1. The recipe called for bisquick, I had to google it. It's some kind of cake/baking ready made mix. Pancake mix came up the most so we just used pancake mix.
  2. The recipe said press down if you want so I did hence they are flatter.
  3. I get the impression. That the mix is just meant to plopped on the tray but I couldn't help but roll the portions for each cookie in my palms!
Anyhoo they are delicious! I took a batch to work and they were gobbled up!

Baking Success: Nutella Cookie Cups

My Saturday project from last week was a great success! *pats herself on the back*

It was a bit touch and go for a while.

All purpose flour was required, I didn't have any! Just about to go out the door to get it when Darling Daughter fell asleep (normally nap-time is a joy but not when it interrupts our schedule). My baking ignorance meant that I wasn't sure if I really needed all purpose flour. As it turns out I couldn't find the damn stuff anyway! After some research (i.e a quick google search) I chose high grade flour.

So Saturday project it was not! Way too much happening on Sunday to squeeze in baking new creations, work Monday, so It became Tuesday Project! Turned out to be most convenient as I had a chum round for afternoon tea, always good to serve home baking in that situation (not usually for me as usually vile creations). I rustled them up (yep rustled them up, you read right, it really was that easy!) while Maisie snoozed. I included her in the process by letting her lick the utensils once she got up from her nap.

For such a yummy looking treat I assumed there would be some involvement of stirring the mixture while standing on my head or some such degree of difficulty. But no, I was pleasantly surprised. I have learnt from my past mistakes. This baking isn't willy nilly ingredient adding. No sire bob it's actually quite scientific. Best way for success is to do what the instructions said. I didn't to the letter but I did more than I normally would!

Where I deviated;
  • When told to beat, then fold, then stir the various I ingredients in I made no technique change no technique change! I just used my grannies mixing bowl for each step!
  • You have to roll the dough into balls once all ingredients are added. My dough wasn't very doughy so I added a bit of normal flour. Maybe not the right thing to do but it didn't kill it!
  • Cooking time was meant to be 10-12 minutes but shock horror I only did 9! Have learnt over time that our rubbishy wee oven is super hot.

No harm done though, check out these babies ...

Look how they should (give or take a few Nutella dribbles and cracks in the pastry) AND they taste amazeballs ( a tricky word to fit in but perfect here).
Safe to say I am particularly chuffed. Probably one of my most successful baking exploits since school!

Saturday Project Week 1

You may (or may not) be aware of my blog about the idea of attempting to make glow in the dark bubbles. Well I gave it a go as promised. I probably would have reported back sooner but it wasn't really very successful.
I had the glow sticks ...

I had the bubbles ...

I even had a glowing bottle of bubbles once I put the two together ...

But sadly I have no lovely picture of actual glowing floating bubbles! Not sure what went wrong, I did what I was told but I failed.

Not one to be put off by failure I have again looked at my Pinterest 'I Must Try This' pin board for inspiration. Surely some of the things I covet are achievable!?!?! I find my self with a Saturday solo avec Cherubs this week, I think I will attempt to make these bad boys ...

I'm not going to lie, I'm slightly terrified, any attempt to bake tends to end in disaster for me! I'm told practice makes perfect though Success or failure I will report back ...
