I bought a couple of new toy boxes today for The Cherubs. Hardly riveting news right? Ok they have wheels, a lid, one is blue and one is pink but they are far from front page worthy.
Obviously I am a cynical old git or should that be simple old git. These toy boxes it would seem are the best thing since sliced bread! I asked Darling Daughter which was best the toy boxes or her new bike (the one we got her for her birthday 3 weeks ago) 'the boxes mummy'. Feck if only we had known this we could have saved a fortune on birthday presents. Although something tells me if she had unwrapped toy boxes on her birthday morning she would have been very disappointed and confused.
No sooner did I have them in the door than they were whisked off to her room. Hang on a minute here lass these are not toys. Bad mummy had a bit of a rage and took them away. 'They are not for playing with they are for tidy up time. If your going to play with them mummy will just have to take them back to the shop' I ranted. How could she not understand she is 3 after all. Mummy bought them for a very specific reason, to tidy up all the toys she kept dragging through from her bedroom!! Sheesh.
Yep very unreasonable of mummy, tut tut tut, slap on the hand for me. Feel a bit sheepish now as I said the poor baby is only 3 after all.
We have come to the mutual agreement that I will use the pink one for her toys in the living room and Dougley (her favorite ever toy dog, we have three just in case, two in action and one in reserve) can live in the blue one until Second Born Son needs it. This didn't go down well at first as Dougley had already moved into the pink box but when I pointed out (calmly and rationally unlike my rage before) that Dougley was a boy and would probably prefer to sleep in a blue box she agreed.
Note to self -
Darling Daughter does have a bedroom full of fabby toys. Does she play in there with them? Does she hell!
Does it matter if she wants to play with her toy boxes not her actual toys? Does it hell!
Not when you get a happy Cherub!
Lol, ah Rufus, I see why we are friends, I am the same. My goodness, I was the same with Buddy's new toy box, he seemed to want to get in the bloody thing even though it was full. When he'd decanted everything all over the floor and got in it, I suddenly remembered one of my fondest memories as a young kid being dragged round the house in the tv box on some sort of trolley by Mom's then boyfriend and calmed down. It's fun and you need to let them have that it's not all about regime for them, they need space to be kids. But yes, sometimes my head cannot compute!
ReplyDeleteMaisey im sure you could get mummy to push you outside in this, its got wheels and i bet it goes fast!!!
ReplyDeleteGet mummy to push you darling, come on ruth...let us know how it goes xo
actually the two of them together look like train wagons, put archie in one, and masiey in the other and wee off you go, with mummy pulling or pushing. great exercise ruth!!! there's a days entertainment for tomorrow. see you saturday ruth xo
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good compromise to me! And I fly off the handle at stupid, irrational things too - it just depends what sort of day you're having as to how you're going to reat, doesn't it?!
ReplyDeleteFound you on 3childrenandit's linky - I've linked up too!
So, so cute! I would be just as annoyed as you though! Loving the boxes, where did you get them from? Thanks for linking up :)
ReplyDeleteFunny looking back at this only six month ago but things have changed a lot!
DeleteBoxes are from the warehouse in n.z! Lovely Hubby laughs at me, I can't come out of tht shop without some kind of storage device!
They are actually really cool toy boxes! The fact they have wheels make them even more awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy girl empties her entire toy box too, just to sit inside it. I've tried different boxes and baskets but none of them will do. It's toy box all the way for her, no matter how much mess it makes!
Found you through the oldies but goodies blog hop xx
How awesome is the oldies but goodies blog hop :).
DeleteFunny, my menace only plays with these ones. I have to coax her to go through her proper toy chest (where the good stuff is) but when she does she is amazed at what she finds (spoilt brat)
You are so right, a happy child is so much more important than our adult agenda. Every single day I have to remind myself of this and with time I'm getting better at relaxing and being less controlling! Mich x
ReplyDeleteI am stupidly ashamed to admit that now I'm back to work we have a 'cleaner'. A condition of me going back to work the amount of hours I am. $40 week! Soooooo worth it my agenda is now what the cherubs want to do! Get to play with kids etc without worrying about the mess etc. What a difference 'mummy beast' is no more!!!
